Settling Amongst the Red Gums in the Shadow of Mount Sturgeon is a compilation of stories of the soldier settler families in the area of Dunkeld, Victoria who sent their children to Dunkeld State School from 1949 onward. It includes individual listings and stories on each of the three settlement areas. The work also includes a brief history of Dunkeld up to the time of Soldier Settlement, and a Timeline from the time of Major Mitchell's travels through Australia Felix, up to the present day.
