Tymon must leave his new home and his beloved Samiha in order to complete his Grafting studies with the famous Oracle of Nur. He travels with a fellow student, Jedda, to Cherk Harbour, a lawless city run by pirates and slave-drivers, where events rapidly overtake them. Tymon and Jedda fight their way free of the corrupt ruling class to finally locate the Oracle ... but she is unlike anything they could have imagined or predicted.
