Product Information

Bk 1 in Six of Crows duology. With all the excitement surrounding the Shadow and Bone Netflix series, and the initial success of the book trilogy the series is based on, Leigh Bardugo has certainly earned her place with fantasy and romance lovers the world over. However, this review is not for Shadow and Bone, as you might have initially suspected. I was not among the millions of people who found Leigh Bardugo through Shadow and Bone, and admittedly, did not feel compelled by what little of it I skimmed through when I eventually gave it a go. Needless to say I was disappointed, as I consider myself a romantasy connoisseur, and felt as though the story had a promising set of ingredients, but lacked flavour in the final product. So far I’m sure this review is coming across as quite negative, and here’s where I’d like to turn this ship around. It’s important to understand that even if you’ve been put off by a writer in the past, you should check in with their newer work now and then, as it’s very possible their early pieces do not reflect all that they have to offer as a storyteller. This has been my experience with Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows. I was charmed by the characters and their schemes from the first chapter, and never lost interest through both books in the duology. YA fiction certainly has its share of snobbish detractors, myself included now and then. But if you're going to pick up something from that section of our store, let it be Six of Crows, as you'll be hard-pressed to find a better ambassador for its genre, or for Leigh Bardugo as a writer.-Randi     In the fantasy city of Ketterdam, Kaz and his crew are tasked with an impossible heist of an impossible fortress. They must trust each other in more ways than ever and fight for their very lives. Bardugo's continuation of the Grishaverse is (personally) her best duology and you will not be able to put it down! - Evelyn, Camberwell store
